Musculoskeletal Healthcare Consultation
At TLM Foot-Knee-Back-Arm Orthotics Center, our friendly orthotist will help you understand the different conditions affecting the human musculoskeletal system, such as bones, joints, muscles and other connective tissues. We also provide various methods to reduce or remove your pain and discomfort while walking, exercising, using the computer etc.
Our body is a collection of joints working together to allow us to perform various motions. We can move freely and easily when all the joints in our body work together in perfect harmony. We feel pain when one or more joints is unable to perform its role, throwing the musculoskeletal system into disarray.
The alignment of the body is examined first in a normal, comfortable, standing position.
When the body is in its ideal alignment, the spine is straight and lies on the sagittal plane at the center of the body; the shoulders, hip, knee, and ankle joints are symmetrical with respect to the center line; corresponding joints – e.g. left and right shoulder joints – are level on the transverse plane, equidistance from the center line, and fall on the coronal plane (Fig. 1).
In addition, hip, knee, and ankle joints should be aligned such that the weight bearing line passes through the hip, the knee-cap, and the middle of the feet (Fig. 2)
This alignment is ideal because it distributes the load of moving the body equally between the different joints involved in the movement.

For example, when you step up with your left leg, the muscles located at your upper right of your body are activated as well to balance the body during the motion (Fig. 3-4). However, if any of the joints on your left leg (ankle, knee, hip joints) is unable to bear the load of the motion, your right shoulder will have to take on extra load in order for your body to complete the motion. Over time the extra load causes wear and tear on your shoulder and you feel pain at your right shoulder.

During the consultation session, our orthotist will identify which joints are not working properly and causing the pain you feel. We will then target these joints during treatment in order to restore your body to its ideal alignment.
Treatment options depend on the type and severity of the curve or angle of the spine. Scoliosis braces are classified into two main categories: rigid and non rigid braces. Age and posture of a patient, as well as the condition of his musculoskeletal system are some of the main factors to determine which brace is most suitable for a patient's needs.
Scoliosis detected during puberty has more than 95% chance of recovery (cobb angle less than 40 degree) without undergoing surgery.
The X-rays shows the "before" and "after" pictures of a 13 year old patient with cobb angle of 38 degree. She grew from 1.62m to 1.71m during 14 months of treatment and her spine straightened at the end of the treatment.

Foot Pain Treatment
The human foot is made up of 26 different joints which are bound together by ligaments, muscles and tissues. A person's weight, exercise postures and hereditary reasons could cause changes or pain and discomfort in a person's foot. Almost everyone will face pain and discomfort in their feet, knee, hip and lower back at different stages of life. It is not difficult to solve these problems. A good pair of hand-made orthotic insoles is able to reduce or completely remove these problems for you.
A friendly advice from us: After a long and tiring day, if you feel any pain or discomfort in your feet, it is a sign for you to start taking care of them. Solve these problems as early as possible!
