Our Methodology

TLM's Way of Approach

TLM Foot-Knee-Back-Arm Orthotics Center provides holistic musculoskeletal healthcare services for patients of all ages. Using the reflexology chart, we can see that most of our organs are directly linked to the bottom of our feet. Direct pressure is applied to those points when we walk. Hence, when the bone structure is misaligned, it could cause an imbalance pressure distributed to these points, leading to chronic illness like diabetes or high blood pressure over an extended period of time.

Orthotics is a field within medicine that use medical devices such as braces and splints to support weak or damaged bones, joints, muscles etc.

An orthotic device, also known as an orthosis (plural: orthoses), is an externally applied medical device fitted to the body to achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • Support or correct musculoskeletal deformities

  • Support weakened joints

  • Control or correct biomechanical alignment

  • Enhance or maintain mobility

  • Protect and support an injury

  • Assist rehabilitation

Knee brace, ankle brace and bunion corrector purchased over the counter are some common orthoses we see and use in our everyday lives.

While cheaply available, most off-the-shelf orthoses are made mainly to provide support and a form of mild pain relieve. They are not designed to treat musculoskeletal conditions as they are not designed specifically for the wearer.

At TLM, each orthosis, including TLM orthotic insoles and orthotic footwear, are medical devices that are produced at the centre and designed specifically for their wearer using TLM's orthotics technology. TLM orthotic insoles and orthotic footwear are used to treat more than 95% of our patients. These orthoses help the patient’s body finds its ideal balancing position and corrects body alignment back to how it was before deformation, thus improving patient’s body structure and posture. No medication, injection or surgery is needed.

We have also received feedbacks from patients showing improvements in other related illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, varicose veins and swollen ankle during treatment.

Non-Invasive Treatment Solution

Recognising the interconnectedness of the various joints in the body, the centre's founder, Prof. Li Ming, developed a unique orthotic footwear and insoles treatment system that can restore your body's alignment starting from the feet.*

TLM’s orthotic footwear and insoles can remedy various musculoskeletal conditions by forcing your body to rest the overworked muscles and work the underused muscles. It does this by channeling ground reaction force to act in a positive manner on your body.

Each time you take a step or perform a motion in contact with the ground, you exert a force on the ground. The ground, in turn, exerts an equal amount of ground reaction force back at us. This force – which may sometimes be as much as twice or three times your body weight – travels up the bones and muscles of your lower body, with your feet bearing the brunt of it. (Hence the arc of the feet to absorb the shock.)

Each pair of insoles produced at the centre has a unique contour designed according to the patient’s feet. By wearing and walking in it regularly, patients find their musculoskeletal health improve as their foot and body alignment changes.

Coupled with trainings to help kick poor walking habits, most patients can expect immediate pain relief and reclaim their mobility after a year of treatment.

While most patients can expect a full recovery wearing only the centre's orthotic footwear and insoles, some patients may need to be fitted with additional braces. You may find out more by enquiring with our orthotist during consultation.
