Customised care for your feet, knees and back

Established in 1997, TLM Foot-Knee-Back-Arm Orthotics Center specialises in the prescription, manufacture and management of orthoses. They are the first orthotics centre

in Singapore to use an insole concept to relieve foot, knee, and back pain that arises from musculoskeletal system conditions.

The center is founded by Ms Li Ming, whose passion for helping people led her to explore the therapeutic possibilities of braces. TLM is a recipient of the Promising SME 500 2015 award.

TLM’s orthotics technology has helped more than 20,000 patients. The goal of TLM’s orthotics technology is to ensure a balanced musculoskeletal system. TLM’s orthotists are

equipped with medical knowledge and clinical experience of the orthopedic, sports medicine, hand surgery, neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation departments.

Ms Li said: “When choosing a pair of insoles to relieve or prevent foot, knee or back pain, you need to find a professional orthotist for treatment. TLM Foot-Knee-Back-Arm Orthotics Center also provides satisfactory pre and post surgery fixed or motion support using TLM’s orthotics technology.”

Starting young

Parents should pay attention to their children’s walking posture. When incorrect walking posture is discovered or children begin to have foot pain or knee pain, it is important to seek help from an orthotics doctor as soon as possible.

The foot molds of three children above are examples of ailments that can cause bunions and hallux valgus, and spinal deformities during growth, such as lordosis, kyphosis and scoliosis.

Importance of correcting joint positions

Some people believe exercising may improve foot, knee and back pain. This is a misconception. Muscle discomfort or weakened muscles can cause changes in joint positions even when standing.

Exercise may accelerate the joint position change. This worsens muscle strength imbalance, which may lead to increased pain, and swollen and inflamed muscles and

ligaments.

However, correction of joint positions leads to balanced muscle strength. Only then will exercising improve body movement and help to prevent the above conditions.
